(CNN) – A suspect is in detention after three people were shot dead Wednesday night in the Westgate Entertainment District shopping complex in Glendale, Arizona, police said.
One victim is in critical condition while the other two have sustained non-life-threatening injuries, Glendale police officer Tiffany Ngalula said on Wednesday evening.
The shooting ended when the police arrived, said Ngalula, adding that the police “confronted the suspect and was able to arrest the person.”
The suspect’s identity has not been released.
In a statement to CNN, the Westgate Entertainment District said it was “deeply concerned about this incident and that our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families”.
“Westgate will continue to work closely with Glendale Police and Homeland Security to better ensure the safety of our customers, tenants and residents,” said the release.
The Glendale shopping complex is approximately 15 miles from Phoenix.
The Glendale Police Service asked people still in the shopping complex to take shelter on site while ensuring that there were no other attackers or victims.
“With a scene of this magnitude, we will take our time with secondary research,” Ngalula told reporters.
One of those who remains locked up is Isaac Osuna, a Chipotle employee, who told CNN that he had heard at least five shots before he saw people flee.
Ngalula acknowledged the information that he video shot and asked anyone with access to this evidence to turn it over to the police.
State Senator Witnesses Shootout
Arizona Senator Martin Quezada said on Twitter that he witnessed the shooting.
“I’m fine. Many people were shocked,” wrote Quezada.
Arizona Governor Doug Ducey also tweeted about the incident, saying the state’s public safety department was in touch with the local police department.
“We are monitoring this closely … and the state is ready to support,” the governor said on Wednesday.
